In the work equation, you have r square as part of the I components. But w is v divided by r, so w squared components have 1/r squared. You get r2/r2, which cancels out. No need to multiply by r2 and then divide by r2, (twice). All that's left is 1/2 of m times v squared (you already found the v initial and final). Right?
