Big brain tip right here. I used to think mixing was the thing that would make my music better. Before I started doing my own recordings and production, my last producer was always interested in putting tons of effects on things instead of getting better recordings or better sounds, and it hurt my music in the end. Production is key to a great sounding mix before you even start mixing!

Finally!! You are the MAN!! Ya people put up more about mixing and what plugins they use and just figure if the song is actully good. Exactly they are 2 diferent skills. As a instrumentalist i personaly focus on the composing THEN think about the mix, after that perfer to send it to the engineer to help me finish my product/idea. Even if that means Im in the studio with the engineer to make sure what i hear is balanced and also trusting another ear. Great advice. (You have to know basic mixing to produce of course) But we think more about melody, lyrics, instruments used, drums, loops ect ect ect. Such good advice🤜🤛 I AGREE TOTALY

Truue, I've been thinking same like for long, to stand out you need a distinct sound, mixing is something you can get done using someone services. As a producer, i think creative process is much important

I love both aspects of creating music but I totally agree with you

and even beyond that become a better composer (if you want to compose of course) and above all becoming a better person, never stop to learn and improve youself (i speak for me too); eat better, sleep better, live better

Wise words. For me also, balance it out. There’s nothing to mix if there’s nothing worth producing or been produced in the first place.

Couldnt agree more Nathan! If your arrangement and your song writing and production is solid enough it should sound good before you even add your first plug in

Mixing is how u get a song from good to great, but production is how u get it to good in the first place

I agree… if your planning on being a producer but if you want to be a sound engineer put a bit more time into mixing. Also mixing isn’t just a bunch of “tips” that’s how beginners treat it, it’s about knowing the technicality of how sound works and knowing your tools inside and out to get the results you want, you shouldn’t just know what eq is you should know what it’s literally doing to the signal, like phase shift, post ringing, adding or subtracting level on the meter etc.

Maybe controversial but It is the truth. Thanks.

Controversial opinion. Home producers tend to mix and produce so need to know both skills. What's the point in having a good vocal if it is drowned out by other parts of the arrangement?

Real talk for a sec, here. I apologize in advance, but here is my genuine opinion that you may agree or disagree.

As much as I love your points and am willinf to get behind them, I feel like you keep repeating the same things over and over again in your contents. The more I see them, the more they become lecturing and dictating.

Maybe you keep trying to push these shorts to reach more viewers, but you gotta give more than lectures to really grab their attention. Most of your videos now are mostly "tell but not show".

I'm super criticizing you right now not because I hate what you do. It's the opposite, as I believe you have more potentials to grow.

I am not trying to make you change or feel discomforted. After all, everyone has a right to make the contents they want, but if we should talk about the aspect of content/video creation, there is still a big gap in what you do.

The truth is, your videos now lack that "hook". It is a hard pill to swallow, but nevertheless important to say. Even if I had not pointed it out here and now, you may realize it sooner or later, in one way or another, or maybe you even had realized it by now.

This is just my opinion; Think of creating contents that could be glorified by your niche community, but also can still be appreciated or applauded by general public, at least enough to "hook" their attention. It doesn't have to be half general public, half niche. The proportion doesn't need to be equal, but "proportional".

Those general public don't need to be part of your niche later, but they will help to improve the scalibility of your channel. If manage to find the right proportion, you may see some results. Therefore, repetitive lectures is not going to cut it anymore, as general public won't even care.

If you don't care about scalibility or gettinf the attenton of general public, it's fine, but I still think that repetitive lectures needs to be dialed down.

I hate comparing, but it is necessary to get my point across. Andrew Huang for example, is also producing music. In terms of skill, I think both you and Andrew are on par. However, Andrew's videos are able to get consistent views and sometimes even get noticed more. The key is that he shows more of his creative process, and more often than not, some of those creative processes grab the attention of general public as well, even if he himself did not actually intend to do that.

In Andrew's videos, there is a good mixture between what musicians will find useful for their own projects, and what the general audience can casually enjoy.

I am not a musician by any stretch, but I am fond of Andrew's videos because there is still an entertainment element that even a casual viewer like me can enjoy. Of course, for musicians, those videos are even more glorified.

This may look like a truly hurtful and harsh critic to you, but believe me when I state that this comes NOT from an ill intent, but from a genuine care for your craft, because I do think that some of your contents are awesome.

I hope this comment will be taken in a positive way. Peace!

You can see that inspiration from todays music...its all about mixing, some what a song, (yes its clear asf) but no great arrangement no creativity of music and scales
