The 15th-century mariners would coat the sails on their boats with fish oil and with grease. This was done for more efficiency and weather and kept the sails light in wet weather. Now did you know that the worn-down remnants of these sails were cut down for capes to keep the mariners dry? These are the beginnings of the fisherman’s slicker.

From 1795, Francis Webster Ltd. was one of the best at adding linseed oil to flax sails. By the mid-1920s the fabric was sent to Websters to be woven and then it would be sent to Lancashire County to be dyed in black or olive green. Now this produced the cloth that was water-resistant, breathable, and didn’t have a yellowing effect as it aged. Then it was sent to London to be treated with copper ammonia afterward the fabric is sent back to Lancashire County for waxing.

In 2005, refined hydrocarbon waxed was developed to better replace the copper ammonia treatment which is causing a really strong scent.

J.Barbour and Sons was an early adapter in the outdoor industry. They made the waxed cotton jackets for farmers and for gamekeepers. Belstaff gained a lot of popularity as motorcycles arose as a means of transportation. Waxed cotton was adapted as the first choice of waterproof clothing for the British Armed Forces in World War II.

My oldest Barbour has just turned 37 years old, now relegated to gardening but still going strong. Wash in cold water in the bath. When re-waxing, use a hairdryer to help keep the wax soft and spreadable.

I have the Beaufort... it's a great jacket. Slightly more relaxed fit, so I find it a little tricky to dress up in some of the ways presented here with the more slim-fitting jacket, but it's great for layering under in the Canadian fall and right into much of winter until it gets really cold. The game pocket is great for popping a couple of tall cans in for a walk to the park lol.

Real story
I recommend this channel to everyone
Coz one time I had this enterance interview to an institute of scientific excellence and I was supposed to present myself in a way which will be simple but elegantly stunning at the same time. Since it was a scientific school I was more worried about the questions they might ask but also my presentation. To ease that tension I watched the videos, a week before.
I am very happy to tell I got the admission to that ivy league school and get going home with the acceptance letter somedays after the interview

I have one wax cotton jacket and I love it. I would warn people considering buying one that they are more “work” than a regular jacket. They will also stain other garments that they are in contact with for longer periods of time so you might want to keep it in a zip up coat bag while in a closet (I found that out the hard way).

It would be interesting to see a video on how to clean a waxed jacket or how to get odors out of it, as I love my Barbourjacket, but it inevitably picks up unpleasant scents, as smoke etc.

3rd outfit... the colouring of the stitching of the jeans complements the sweater as well.. this also goes for outfit 7 with the similiar orange/brown thread used in the jeans and the shirt.

I enjoy how the waxed cotton gives the option of a middle ground. Somewhere between raincoat and motorcycle jacket. ☺️ Now imagine adding cold weather accessories such a scarf, hat and gloves. (Fedora: Indiana Jones. Ha!)
