This is not a debate. Just see how statistically, millennials prioritise jobs and housing over things baby boomers took for granted. Housing, stable jobs, higher education, marriage, children... personally I know I can only start to think about those things in my 40s-50s.

The popular view of millennials being a waste of money and space is really quite typical of human nature in general, as, more often than not, whenever one group of people induces a poorer standard of life on another group of people, the former then actually blames the latter for that rather than taking responsibility for the effects of their own actions. It is a fundamental facet of human nature that manifests itself whether people are comparing themselves to another generation, another nationality, culture, religious group, ethnicity or any other variable. Take the persecution of the Jews for instance, wherein the Catholic populations of Europe ostracised and socially isolated them, and removed from them all economic opportunities to achieve a significant steady income other than banking, only to then persecute them for imagined crimes such as poisoning wells and spreading disease using differing locals rates of death and illness that would be inevitable given isolation of communities as evidence, and of course for banking, with the creation of associated stereotypes such as Jews being 'greedy' and 'untrustworthy', etc.

Ultimately it is the desire for people to maintain high opinions of themselves mixed with willful ignorance and stupidity to this end, which unfortunately appears to be a universal human trait.

i'm currently earning the highest salary of my entire life, and i have zero desire to own a car, zero desire to own a house, and ngl i HATE saving money, especially when i have student loans to pay. money is a tool and tools are meant to be used; not stored in a box until a "rainy day." i don't live in fear of losing money because i've already conquered that in my twenties. i still enjoy cup-o-noodles and peanut butter banana sammiches and am totally fine with just water. if you're a survivor of low income, SPEND YOUR MONEY AND ENJOY YOUR LIFE. stop saving for something you think MIGHT happen
