Merry Happy Whatever follows Don Quinn (Dennis Quaid), a strong-willed patriarch from Philadelphia doing his best to balance the stress of the holidays with the demands of his close-knit but eclectic family — and his family doing their best to manage him. Have seen 7 of the episodes and love it!! Very funny and surprisingly emotional and sweet at times. The canned laughter is annoying but it has more serious moments without it. It really feels like watching a real family dynamic.

The audience laughter means that the show is shot in front of an audience, so it’s like a theather performance when shot, it’s not telling you when to laugh, just when the audience felt like laughing. Old school format, but still worthwhile.
