I have not set it up yet, but what if you don't have the remote for the device? Is why I bought it to replace some missing remote I have had NO Luck with "universal" remotes either, Thanks!

How come using this device Alexa is not able to detect the dvd players added? Are there extra steps to add dvd and bluray players using the IR blaster in order for Alexa to detect them?

Just make it clear. For example i have room + wifi with ir remote i placed. Can i turn on the AC on my room while i am in my office prepare to go home, so when i arrived in my room, i get the fresh air?
