Using a guillotine like this can really speed up a build that requires a lot of wood or styrene parts.
Here in the US the one I like to use is the Chopper, from Northwest Shortline. They have a couple of variations, and all of them work very well. These start at about $20 US. The model railway distributors can be an excellent source for scratchbuilding of any type.

Yes, I have the Chopper as well, but it's a VAT issue I think. I like metal...plastic is cheap and okay. As long as you know what you are dealing with, and are patient. This is a great review. Thanks...Solomon

I purchaced one of these Linic chopping tools a few years ago from a model tool retailer based in the UK for around £10 .
To be honest I wasn't impressed, firstly, the pivot area had a crack on the one side, secondly I couldn't achieve the precision of cutting that I can with my both more expensive NWSL choppers #1 and 2. The inlay cutting area wasn't 100% flat and didn't 'sit well' within its recess, also being made of plastic there's the springy bouncy issue, where as a cutting mat suppresses this, and its wafer thin blade bends, so not achieving a true straight cut which requires the slightly bevelled cut to be rectified with a file.
Well for around £10 we get what we pay for ..., But in comparison to my NWSL Chopper #1 & 2 being far more accurate but 3x the cost but I think well worth the extra.
There ARE a couple of UK sources that stock the NWSL versions, 4D modelshop in London being one that imports them from the USA.
The only advantage the I can see with the Linic chopper is that its able to cut angles, where-as NWSL choppers cut angles but are restricted to length so not able to cut a strip in half (angle), for accuracy achieving that is a chopping tool from RP Toolz being a lot more expensive at around £85.
But in all fairness we get what we pay for, , the cracked pivot fault in my then brand new Linic chop tool put me off straight away, I therefore didn't really use it much after & binned it when I purchased my NWSL chopper.

Was watching a Luke Towan (railroad modeler on Youtube) video where he was building a bunch of HO scale pallets. He was using Chop It which is sold apparently only by Micro Mark for $30. But using boulder as 10% discount code,  basically got free shipping. He put a piece of wood to prop it up at an angle so as the styrene was cut, it fell away so he didn't have to remove each piece from the cutting board.

Hi Sim, I have one of these and I do find that the blade does tend to dull quite quickly and it starts to crush the balsa wood rather than cut it. I am sure that it would not take too much effort to sharpen the blade if you had a stone and some oil, but the blades do tend to go dull a little too quickly for my taste and I am not a heavy user. Hopefully you will find it okay and get on with yours okay.
Have fun and speak again soon,
Joe
