When corporal Daniel O’Neill of the Rhode Island State Police adopted a shelter dog that no one else wanted, he could never have imagined how his life would change. Ruby the dog had been adopted and returned five times before the shelter volunteer convinced O’Neill to take her. Ruby became a certified K-9, and on one fateful day, she was part of a search party for a missing teenager. She found the teen, who authorities later learned was the son of the volunteer at the shelter.

I hope the five people who adopted her before and returned her back see how amazing she is.

What a story! It’s never a bad idea to take a chance on something or someone. Life works in mysterious ways. Great job Ruby!

A dog that nobody wanted? No, it was the dog that just 5 people didn't want. 6th try's the charm 💙

I’m excited to see the movie inspired by Ruby! Also, the police garb in Rhode Island looks like old fashioned military uniforms.

My shelter puppy called Nessy was my therapy dog for 15 years. A Staffy cross Kelpie {an Australian working dog) I rescued her from a local pound the day before she was meant to be euthanised. At the time I was recovering from a bad back injury and 5 years later was diagnosed with bipolar (what they used to call Manic depression). She instinctively knew when I was having a bad day with pain or negative thoughts and would bring me her toys to play with or cuddle up against me. She saved my life so many times, just by being there. I lost her to cancer December 28 2019, just as the pandemic was starting.
I will always love her and I know she is waiting for me in Heaven.
One day I will rescue another pup from a shelter, I can't imagine buying one from anywhere else.
Blessings from South Eastern Australia, Dot

The real Ruby died two days ago, put to sleep at 11 years old. Dozens of police officers visited her room beforehand to pay their respects. Later, the hospital held a memorial for staff and officers alike. It was quite emotional to see.

Ruby must be around 10-12 years now and she is still so energetic..she jumps without any joint problems.

Love the story.... Imagine how this volunteer believed on Ruby... and Ruby is the one who will found her missing son.

My family let me pick out our next dog at the spca when I was a kid. I really wanted this dog that was really energetic/rambunctious, but the spca handler was kinda trying to tell me he was pretty nuts - we adopted him anyways… 6 or 7 years later me and my dad were walking “Toohey” on the beach and the same spca handler came up to us, recognised my dog and told us how happy she was that he found a good home.❤️🙏

Just shows that even if someone has made some Mistakes Or Noone wants them, They Can still be Special and even better than Others and still be a good person.

I adopted my dog from a rescue. She’d been through 4 homes, was abused and scared of everything. It’s been almost 2 years and she’s close to becoming my fully trained service dog. She saves my life everyday and I wouldn’t be here without her
