What the Mau Mau did was to prevent the highlands where they settled in Kenya from turning into a New Zealand where white settlers totally pushed the indigenous inhabitants into insignificance.

In the 1940s the steady trickle of settlers was starting to accelerate into a rapid flow. The Brits placed adverts in the UK, South Africa and Australia for wazungu to come to Kenya and "live like royalty".

The Mau Mau war scared potential settlers and stopped their flow into Kenya.

I grew up in an area where there were a lot of colonialist settlers so I'm super interested in the history.

Mwaf you go it right. Michael Blundell is the founding father of Kenya. Jomo was separated from his fellow prisoners and brought to Maralal so Blundell could conduct negotiations with him.

Love this conversation. They left but ensured they controlled indirectly. France was on a different level.

42 Tribes in one family called Kenya. It is not a tribe that rules. It is an individual. It is not about which tribe he comes from, it is how he transforms Kenya positively. When prices go down, they favor all the 42 tribes not one.

Would have loved Ian and raptcha in this conversation.
My take we were given independence coz of USSR American cold war. Countries that failed to be granted indepence got help and beat the Europeans like Mozambique SA.

After WWII European countries were economically down and needed to be bailed out by the USA. One of the conditions of being bailed out was to withdraw from their colonies and grant them independence. That's why many African countries gained independence around the same time

After enjoying the tea by the British, 😂😂the Bukusu fought & deafeted Brits and Lumboka in Bungoma the fight was so brutal that the Brits never dared to come back to Bukusu land.

I disagree that everyone took part. There are sections of Kenyans who are minimizing the role of Mau Mau because they sat and watched others resist just like today-they didn't feel the pain of displacement. Mau Mau are just like today's Gen Z or Raila's second liberation for change of Constitution, not everyone took part in the protests or lost their lives, but it was enough to turn on the heat and pressure the British to the negotiate with our 'elites'. Let's not insult our heroes, and respect them because they made sacrifices on our behalf whether it's Mau Mau, Second liberation heroes or Gen Zs, we haven't paid the ultimate price, but they did. Does Raila feel entitled to be president because he fought for the second liberation, maybe Mt. Kenya people feel the same and they take it very seriously. Muhoho can never be president, he doesn't have the same fire to fight like his brother or his father.

Dedan Kimathi was an english literature teacher. He was well educated. However, the things you are saying make a lot of sense

They knew Mwaf, watu walikua wana trade na wanapiga raids bana. Ni vile sasa wakichukua nyumbani na the fertile places we have tutaenda wapi tena? Na a few years back walikua wametuchukua kama slaves, and just before revolting time ya independence wakatulazimisha kwenda ku fight world wars zao pia. Other people revolted in other places as well as the Mau Mau.... CC Koitalel arap Samoei, Mekatilili
