the thing i would say is manga was designed to have an end to the story. american comics were more meant to have a monster of the weak kinda story like poeer rangers which just never has to end as long as there is always a new monsters you can create. one piece has had an end in mind even from the beginning. echira oda actually did like a make a wish where he told a young dying girl how it ends since she wouldn't be be around to read it. and this was like 10 years ago

I also think it's beneficial that Dragon Ball and One Piece have kept the same exact characters around since their beginnings. The Goku from Dragon Ball is the same one from Dragon Ball Super. He isn't' some reboot/different dimension Goku. His story and the stories of those who surround him are continuous. Same can't be said for Batman, Superman, Spiderman etc.

Introduce someone to One Piece just give them chapter 1, introduce someone to Batman, Superman or Spiderman...

With DC and Marvel, there's way too many stupid retcons and spin-off characters.

Instead of copying manga art style, Rippa is taking their business model and combining it with the best parts of American comics.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a business man!

I asked a comic shop where to start when new52 was coming out. big mistake! I read justice league 1 and it drove me to never picking up DC again

Something that anime/manga promises that current western comics don't is a consistent continuity. Most manga/anime is written by one lead taking charge of the story direction and a whole team to help him/her to make it happen, meanwhile a single storyline in western comics is usually written by several people changing hands each book and it usually results in "oh i didn't like that, I'm going to retcon it" "oh but i didn't like that retcon, I'm going to retcon the retcon"

In addition, reboots make it more difficult for someone (new fans especially) to care. Why bother getting into a series that's been done already, and may start over again in the near future?

A similar issue arises with multiverses. Why care about a character who exists in multiple universes? If the writers kill the character off in one universe, they can pluck him out of another universe "reviving" him so to speak, which eliminates the sanctity of death.
