Also: Don’t put male ducks with chickens!

Another thing is that if ducklings drink too much water at a time, like on a hot day or right after you fill the container, they have no idea when to stop because they're enjoying the water and can get pretty "drunk" (wobbling around, unable to move, etc) and if they drink too much after they go into that "drunk" state, they can accidentally drown themselves, so keep your ducklings with smaller amounts of water and fil them more often, or a bigger water container that you keep full but are able to remove, just in case 😁😁😁

Yeah that "it won't stop them from mating" is very true. Had just two female ducks for a long time and they'd go at it together, taking turns. I have boys now and they've calmed down on the lez lol

Thank you so much for addressing these issues. It makes me so happy to see people trying to raise awareness about these issues that are far too common.

as a first timer duck owner i did make the ratio female/male mistake and lost my favorite girl he drowned her trying to mate. i fixed it as soon as it happened i feel horrible still but i learned the appropriate ratio.

I love that baby in the watermelon!!! Thank you for always helping ppl. I tell the waterfowl I rescue constantly "you all are way smarter than we are". Even tho my husband's IQ is (&was) so so high, he was in the "gifted classes" in school and college... my husband &i both admitted many times...these ducks are smarter than us...every time we ever doubt they know what they're doing ...they prove to us again, that humans are not as smart as they are. Listen to this nice lady's suggestions ... she is 100% correct!

Actually, domestic ducks CAN survive just fine in the wild, that's why it's illegal to release them. They're all over the place in Florida and even had domestic ducks mix with the mallards here in my state. You can still see ducks with hybrid traits, nearly 20 years later.

And ducks need water deep enough for their entire beak to go in, it keeps it moist and healthy!

I had two male ducks that would not go after the females and we found out why when we seen them mateing with each other which was unexpected but hey they weren't being ruff with the ladies

actually, 1 drake for 5 ducks is preferrable, though for call ducks you may be able to get away with 3 or 4 hens.
Larger breeds, most of them, need more hens than that.

I only have to pet my duck, pick up her egg, shut/open the coop door, and occasionally give her hay on stardew valley 😋

You're so smart! 🙂 I've wanted to raise ducks for a few years now but I recognize that I don't have the time and dedication that the ducks deserve. 😎👍🏻

I now realize the two giant ducks we had swimming around the park where domestic ducks, they are absolutely massive compared to wild ducks

My ducks keep going after my chickens to mate. I have to put them in a separate pen. My mother won't listen to me
