Stephen Hawking: AI Could Spell The End of the Human Race

In a December 2014 BBC interview, after the launch of a new software system designed to help him communicate more easily, Professor Stephen Hawking said there were many benefits to new technology, but also some risks. He told the BBC that artificial intelligence could spell the end for the human race.

Stephen Hawking: But I think that development of full artificial Intelligence could spell the end of the human race. Once humans develop artificial intelligence that would take off on its own and redesign itself at a never increasing rate, humans who are limited by slow biological evolution couldn't compete and would be superseded.
