Introduction to Optical Filters

Optical filters let certain wavelengths of light pass through and not others, and they're incredibly important in everything from fluorescence microscopy to astronomy!

Watch to learn about 2 of the main types of filters: absorptive and dichroic

Dichroic filters are especially important for fluorescence imaging applications like PCR systems, genomics, and other biological imaging

Edmund Optics designs and manufactures high-precision filter coatings from prototype to volume production quantities

Hope there's more videos in this explaining the optical filters series.

I didn't know that what I needed in life was Edmund optics to have a YouTube channel but it turns out I do

Awesome! I have to wear optical filters like those as glasses, which appear rose red to mitigate my visual snow (a type of neurological false-pattern creation, exacerbated by certain wavelengths, predominantly certain blues and greens present in sunlight; looks like tv static).
I’m very grateful for this kind of technology and how it lead to the invention of colorimetry machines for optometrists.

So how the reflected ray energy is dealt with? Is it absorbed by some special material that has better heat sink capacity? Are they directed away from the beam source?

Are there lenses that remove all colors leaving black and white 🤔
