Not quite 100 pages in and this is the clearest treatment of the subject I've ever come across as a lay reader. Ancient City by De Coulanges helped also podcasts like this talking about these issues in different modes of thought. Alamariu is incredible. His writing is so clear and helps to understand where we come from.
