What are the three most important things I can do in my classes to improve learning?

Hmmm . . . I taught in the public school system for forty years. From what I experienced, the desire to know one's effectiveness and improve on it, has to come from within. It also takes time. Once I got to year thirty (retirement eligibility) I was known to say: "Retire ! ? I just learned how to do this Job." I loved teaching. Health finally convinced me to step out of the harness. My dog and I are currently re-watching my thirty-six issues of the Video Journal of Education. What strikes us is how little the wisdom of how to teach effectively, which was available forty to fifty years ago, is evident in school today. The real tragedy, is how some of that information has been turned inside out by administrators who do not have a clue, making what was once profound wisdom, into harmful nonsense. Unfortunately, it is not the cream that rises to the top in education.
