Sorry guys! The first one of these videos had no sound (thanks for alerting me in unison!). (Palms face...I exported it without the audio). But glad y'all were paying attention! haha :)

As I was saying, had to get rid of most of my English ivy that I had growing in my house due to a lot of ongoing construction, particularly ripping up walls to replace electricity, heating, and a fire escape (Nightmare!). I think now that the majority of that is finished (finger's crossed), I'll be bringing it back home. This small specimen takes the 243rd spot of "365 Days of Plants".

In this video I'll discuss where it is originally native to, where I'm growing it in my home, and basics like light, watering and fertilizing.

You can check out more of these videos here and on my IGTV @homesteadbrooklyn.

Featured plant:
Hedera helix 'Variegata' (English Ivy)

My grandma's old folks home had an activity where they all potted plants. I was hanging with her and we picked this guy up here to put and keep in her room. She was 101 at the time. She has since passed, but I still have the plant.
It's doing good and is in an eastern window. It was tiny when we planted it. It's now about 2/3 the size of the one in the video. Its special. No spider mites or bugs but, the spiders love building webs around the pot. So maybe it does have some bugs living in it. I can't remember what else my grandma and I had to choose from that day I remember a peperomia and some bigger colorful succulent type plants. We went modest. I'm looking at the plant right now. It's cool the memory they hold! "Remembering is like a plant, it grows with love and light. Memory is the water, flowing but where in the world did it come from? A past, of life, always present. From the sky maybe, but here, I hope I remember always a drink for the love and light."

It's a real classic, reliable and hardy plant. I love the variegation. I've seen it used in planters with annuals where it drapes down over the edge and looks quite lovely.

Mine has the CRAZIEST variegation for an plant I’ve ever seen. The leaves have different shapes, and radically different variation. One has normal green yellow variegation on one half, and the other half has the same but also yellow polka dots, absolutely amazing.

I had trouble with spider mites too. I got rid of it by rinsing the leaves every couple of days and now it is healthy again! I just check it for bugs every once in a while :)

Hedera helix "Ivalace" is a nice elegant one, tiny filigree leaves and slower growing.

There is no way I'd let any ivy cling to internal walls though!!

every ivy i’ve ever had dies quickly on me. I’ve tried lower light, higher light, dryer conditions, moister conditions. I have know idea what the heck keeps happening. I always here people say they are super easy to grow and will grow everywhere. apparently everywhere except my home (Southeastern Iowa). Too bad for me because I love the look of it.

Very smart video format so people can look at both the plant and you, the presenter, at the same time. Excellent stuff

Hey Summer, how is life in the big apple ?. Life without the feathered friend, ah, I made a spider friend today, queen of the nest. They invaded my workspace, have to claim it back, shudders running from the shed for the 30th time. I have had a complete change of heart as far as my journey is concerned, man my garden looks incredible and not a plant down lol. Now my new plan is to become a berry bush gardener, yep, no more, annuals, grow cut and grow again and cut again. Arona berry, Raspberry, Gooseberry, Redcurrent, Blackcurrent, Goji berry, Honey berry, Lindon berry, Elderberry, Blueberry, Blackberry. Spread berries around the world. Yeah had my flash at the last moment, no more dead winter plants. Lovely, though there is the love of it. Garden time again.

Hi Summer, thank you for sharing your experience with us. I had 2 pots from this plant, but both died .. I like this plant I don’t know what is the problem, or what type of soil it needs and the watering .. If you give more details that will be great..

I was looking for tips to grow my Ivy and I hear her talk about the problems she had with growing it. *Click bait*

Have never grown ivy as a house plant, however l've grown one as a bonsai and kept it small. I usually grow different types outdoors in mixed pots of flowers and shrubs.

Woo Hoo, so glad this one has sound, I tried to lip read but I suck at it. As I said with the other video, I have just resisted buying any Ivy's because they either get spider mites or mealy bugs, I will just admire them from a far or admire other plant tubers that can grow them, I just can't seem too. It is a beautiful Ivy just not for me :( Thank you Summer, looking forward to the next video
