It's almost like they keep moving the goal post and will always justify it if they change a character from white to black.

If the part of Hermione is swapped, I'm sure Malfoy will still be a blonde, blue-eyed evil white guy calling her a "Mudblood". And same for James Potter and his friends (all white) picking on a swapped Snape.

Rickman ad Snape was one of the best castings in all of film history. The age mismatch for this character is not a problem due to the nature of the character. You sort of assume that Snape will have aged poorly and appear older than he actually is.

I just can't stop laughing that they chose Snape out of all people. Here is how this thing will now look with Snape being race-swapped: Black kid comes from the poverty and has abusive dad. He then falls for a pretty white girl that tolerates his company at best. Upon entering wizard school, he instantly gets picked on by this white kid called James and his loser white friends who all jump on him just because of how he LOOKS. From attempting to get him killed by a werewolf, to hanging him upside down from a tree because he had a crush on pretty white girl. Said pretty white girl was holding back her laughter, as she found James, white kid, hanging upside down this black kid as actually funny thing in secret. She then gets upset at him calling her a wizard slur and goes to date his biggest bully, having a child with him. This gets him mad so much that he joins wizard naz*s. In his later life, he became so bitter that he started bullying kids, especially the child of his former crush, because he was upset about that child's dad, especially his mother choosing his dad over him. The bullying of this child gets so bad that Harry has multiple instances in which he thinks about [deleting] himself.

Bonus: Let us not even go into how Harry, upon first seeing Snape, instantly had dislike for him because he "looked like he was up to no good." Now imagine Harry thinking this while camera pans out to Snape, who is now black. On top of that, Snape is literally the most mistrusted character in this franchise. Whenever something bad happens, Harry and the rest instantly go to accuse him.

Another bonus: Harry ends up becoming wizard cop at the end of it all.

The jokes just write themselves.

Anyone who has read the books, knows that there are black characters, making forced inclusion completely unnecessary. The books are actually quite diverse in ethnicities, just make the character faithful to the story, not to ideology.

This adds a stupid racial undertone to so many things that don't need it. Maraurders bullying a black kid, harry being suspicious of the only black teacher. Snape comming from a poor background, becomming a crimminal, and joning a gang... peopel looking down on Snape will now be seen in new light

After all the casting procedures, I would love to hear Paapa to come out, saying he declined the role because it is stupid for him to portray such an iconic character. That would get him incredible amount of respect.

There is already an element of racism existing in the wizarding community - between the purebloods, muggleborns, and muggles.
Adding another element could take the focus away from the actual story and become a “look we’re so woke” project.

The problem with this casting is that it changes how other characters will be perceived. James and his three friends pick on a black kid? Child Harry is immediately suspicious of the one black professor? It basically makes everyone else look racist.

I'm mad about this one.
I love Harry Potter and Snape is my favourite character, so this is ridiculous. Second, instead of changing ethnicities, why don't people create new stuff for every ethnicity ? I'm so tired of this, because it's not good for anyone, it's going to get dragged and harshly criticized. For the love of God, just create new shows, movies, whatever to all ethnicities.

I'm a purist when it comes to book adaptations and I stand by the fact that the majority of the book lovers will not enjoy the HBO remake of HP, despite the idea that there will be more time to include more book content. If they can't stay true to essential parts like MAIN characters, how will they do the rest justice. At this point they might as well just race swap the entire cast, place the school in another continent entirely, and throw in unnecessary new plot points because that's just what they do when they turn books into tv series.
