This is purely anecdotal but someone told me once that they quite literally encountered pirates right in that area in the 90s and they proceeded to Rob them sabotage their engine to which it was on workable (shot it) and then told their boat out to the middle of the ocean. Obviously they were rescued by somebody else to tell the tale but a good number of people in the city we live in didn't believe them that there could be pirates in that part of the world. There everywhere
