Canada's two main freight railways are reportedly refusing container imports from specific ports as they brace for a potential historic work stoppage.

Negotiations are ongoing, but there is still a considerable gap to bridge in order to reach an agreement.

The people doing the actual work should be making the most not the pencil pushers

If rail companies are losing money then why does upper management keep getting large bonuses. Hopefully if it goes through arbitration the management will have to make cuts to themselves.

The railways need to treat employees as important resources instead of slaves.

I was considering working for CP rail as a conductor: until I found out that they expect you to be on call 24/7/360, with a 2 hour window.
You can't even schedule a dinner party around that!

If the company wanted to avoid a strike why are they locking out the workers😂😂😂

The serious complete collapse of the 5 miles railway bridge near Fort Frances Ontario on aug 14, no doubt also has a major impact on the transportation of goods.

Whether or not its a lockout or strike I feel for the Union workers as the Union Executives will still receive their salary while the worker goes without.

First thing is about the guy that said places only have about 10 to 14 days supply of chlorine and and that's bad because we only have days not weeks last I checked 14 days is 2 weeks. Next is people have to realise that the only reason trains will stop moving is because the company chooses to not to. Their management are 90% train locomotive engineers and conductors so they have the ability to run trains. It's all a scare tactic to get the general public on their side. Let us bargain in the 8 months of negotiations the company has not even tried to come to a deal so forcing us back is just giving them what they want.

Reading some of these comments, I can clearly tell who has never worked in the railroad industry, or worked at all in general.

Canada 100 plus year rail service needs to be COMPLETELY overhauled! Evacuated Trube Transport is the future.

Folks will soon figure out not only how essential railway workers are, but how vital they are in getting supplies across country and between countries. I give it a week.

Train crews are Expandable, basically!!!!Companies are working for the share holders, for the stock holders, not their employees!!!

Certain union managers said in the media that this would be the summer of discontent. Is this what they mean by that. This is going on right on the railroad property. CEO’s looking the other way? Is this new to anyone?

The railway companies are part of the problem. The unions are also a big part of the problem.
