The Masseter is Grendel's signature Heavy Blade introduced as part of the 'Old Blood' update. The Masseter deals primarily Impact damage and sports a fairly high Critical Chance of 24% and a fairly high Status Chance of 28%. The Masseter's blueprint can be acquired through the Tenno Lab in the Clan Dojo.

Keeping with Grendel's design being inspired by Oni, the Masseter's design is based on the Kanabō, a studded, two-handed club used by samurai. The cumbersome nature of the kanabō resulted in the weapon being associated with Oni due to their great strength.
