Louros Located at the beginning of the fertile Valley called Lamari is a turning point , the highway that crosses it leads to the three major cities of Epirus Ioannina, Arta Preveza.

On the banks of the river Louros, many buglosses grow . Lures, the locals call them. The locals cut Lures and made, huts and house-stoves to stay in the old village near the river. So the name of the village that had houses made of lures was named after.

Historically, the first reference to the village was made in 1670 by Turkish traveler Evliya Çelepi, and it was overrun by Ali Pasha in 1797 despite strong resistance from the inhabitants. The liberation came much later by the Greek army on October 16, 1912

You can make a stop at the fast-food cafes, which are sparsely among the National Road, or visit the St. Varnavas Grove before continuing on.

 A few kilometers further we meet the Avassos monastery dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary built in 1746.
Noteworthy point of the monastery is the wood-carved altarpiece with depictions of the Holy Bible.

Ο Λούρος Βρίσκεται στην αρχή της εύφορης κοιλάδας Λάμαρης είναι ένα κομβικό σημείο, η εθνική οδό που τον διασχίζει οδηγεί στις τρεις μεγάλες πόλεις της Ηπείρου Ιωάννινα, Άρτα Πρέβεζα.

Στις όχθες του Λούρου ποταμού, φυτρώνουν πολλές λυγιές. Λούρες, τις ονομάζουν οι ντόπιοι . Οι κάτοικοι έκοβαν λούρες και έπλεκαν μ’ αυτές μαντριά, καλύβια και σπιτοκάλυβα, για να μείνουν στο παλιό χωριό κοντά στο ποτάμι. Έτσι πήρε το όνομα του το χωριό που είχε σπίτια από λούρες.

Ιστορικά η πρώτη αναφορά στο χωρίο εγηνε το 1670 απο Τούρκο περιηγητή Εβλιγιά Τσελέπη, ενώ κυριεύτηκε από τον Αλή πασά το 1797 παρά την σθεναρή αντίσταση των κατοικων.Η απελευθέρωση ήρθε πολύ αργότερα από τον Ελληνικό στρατό στις 16 Οκτωβρίου του 1912

Μπορείτε να κάνετε μία στάση στα καφέ - εστιατόρια (fast-food) τα οποία είναι διάσπαρτα κατά μήκος της Εθνικής Οδού , η να επισκεφτείτε, το άλσος του Αγίου Βαρνάβα πριν συνεχίσετε την πορεία σας.

Λίγα χιλιόμετρα μακρύτερα συναντάμε την ιερά μονή Αβάσσου αφιερωμένη στην κοίμηση της Θεοτόκου κτισμένη το 1746.
Αξιόλογο σημείο του μοναστηριού είναι το ξυλόγλυπτο τέμπλο με παραστάσεις από την άγια γραφή .
