Authorized: The Navy Good Conduct Medal was authorized on November 21, 1884.

Criteria: The medal is awarded to enlisted personnel of the United States Navy and Naval Reserve (active duty) for creditable, above average professional performance, military behavior, leadership, military appearance and adaptability based on good conduct and faithful service for three-year periods of continuous active service.

Naval personnel may also receive the medal if separated from the service as a result of wounds incurred in combat.

I served 5 years and have one. My father had 5, he told my you earn it by not getting caught for 4 years.

I served in the U.S.N.Seabees from 1961-1964 and believe I qualify as serving 4 years, and having no infractions against me .  How do I apply for the medal?    Can you give me direction?  Thank you !   Stu.
