The Rubinoos were an American power pop band and 'I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend' has such a real boyish sweetness and innocence to it that almost 45 years later, I'm still scratching my head as to how this wasn't huge.

Saw them open for Elvis Costello in San Diego in 78.

The song sounds 70s in some parts and 90s in others. I could hear them using the chorus as the theme for "Friends."

The riff reminds me of the Replacements song Color Me Impressed just as much as the chorus reminds me of the Avril Lavigne song Girlfriend
