I can't think of a more unmarketable subscription service than charging $12/month for wallpapers. How anyone as successful as Marques could be oblivious to this is beyond me.

Fun Fact: LTT is working to bring RileyAI to market, now you too can have a waifu in Riley. Optional maid skins start at $4.99.

Marques whole spiel is: don't buy stuff based on promises of future capabilities. Yet he said that the price of the subscription is related to the fact that it will offer a lot more than just wallpapers...in the future. Do as I say, not as I do... ❗

MKBHD: never buy a product on the promise of future additional features. Buy it for what it is today.
Also MKBHD: get a subscription to my new app today. We’ve got some things planned for it in the future.

The Panels thing is so funny to me. MKBHD is supposed to be such a highly renowned tech reviewer, but his own app shows he has the same priorities as Apple: yesterday's ideas at tomorrow's prices. I can't remember the last time I saw someone use a wallpaper app, let alone pay a subscription fee for it.
EDIT: Can't believe I even have to add a footnote here...a couple of comments are saying the pricing is just to support the artists and to that I say: why would I want to support the AI "art" they obviously included in here, and two variants of the color orange?

2:30 "Chat GPT's advanced voice mode is rolling out to all eight subscribers this week." That's what I heard and I'm sticking with it.

Was not mentioned inthe video: MKBHD app allows AI generated images.

Paying money for wallpapers, what a time to be alive

to me, subscription only makes sense if you are using it regularly, like spotify, netflix etc. but wallpaper is like buying a knife. you pick and settle with one. maybe after few months you feels its kinda dull or boring, then u grab a new one. it doesn't make sense to have monthly subscription for wallpaper?! It should be FREE for SD quality to try it on. After you like it, you can purchase it (with reasonable wallpaper price) one time per wallpaper OR let the ADs pay it for you. That's it.

Imagine if the price is 1 dollar per wallpaper. 50 dollars means, 50 wallpapers per year! who change their wallpaper 50 times per year?! If you do change at least 50 wallpapers every year, then you shouldn't be mad at the price. This app is definitely for you.

$12 per month to get full res wallpapers? That is like 4x my monthly Spotify subscription! What a rip off! 😆

I can confidently state that Marques launched the app as an afterthought given how the developer is some generic 3rd party LLC based in Florida.

Its clear that he knows nothing about app development despite having a decent storefront website.

I hope I’m right that he’s just clueless, otherwise my perspective of him would massively change as some out-of-touch rich kid.

I miss being excited about tech news and developments. Now it's just AI and mega corps bringing me sad in a pretty package and an unconvincing pitch. That said, TL makes it better by being charming and delightful, while also being the definition of cynical.
Tldr: love the channel, hate the news.

The Wet Hologram... Such a thing was demonstrated at Siggraph in 2005. It wasn't just a display, it had a touch interface. You could poke your finger in it and manipulate icons as you would on a Windows desktop.

Man, the amount of privacy people freely give away, is mind-blowing.

I'm sorry, I'm a huge fan of MKBHD but thats egregious to pay that much per month. Especially knowing how and where they get the wallpapers. Very sad to see to be honest.
