The Supreme Court is the highest court in New South Wales, it hears the most serious criminal matters, as well as criminal appeals, and can also hear civil matters. The Darlinghurst courthouse is a sandstone building located on Oxford Street at Taylor Square in the inner-city suburb of Darlinghurst. It is still used by the New South Wales Supreme Court. The central block designed by Mortimer Lewis was built in 1835. Bus routes to Bondi Junction or the eastern suburbs from the city provide convenient access to the Darlinghurst Court House.
