Microsoft owns 49% of OpenAI...

It's like the ultimate squeeze of their partner.... super strange... and even if people leave Microsoft back to OpenAI, Microsoft wins still.

More associates need to stand against these pathetic boards running these organizations! Good on the ~700.

14:42 the whole reason why Altman named the company OpenAI is because he believed he could deliver free open source models that would translate into lower costs for everyone to benefit from. In fact, Model usage with AI is actually very low cost. What really is very expensive is the talent that can develop the IP and innovation to drive valuation. But I don’t think any AI research will break into the $10 trillion dollar space. The drama behind of all of this right now makes it feel that way. It’s just hard to find AI researchers with actual experience in delivering working commercial AI models that deliver any real value. There’s a huge reluctance from AI researchers to release anything into the wild. I don’t blame them either for being paranoid.

This Open Ai company seems to have fired the CEO over something personal, Bill Gates scooped him right up. Seems like bad business to fire him like that.

No matter how you feel about it AI isn’t going anywhere guys. The big moves being played should be your first sign.

This is how chaos starts and things spiral out of control, if one person doesn't agree with another vision they replace them with someone that will comply. This AI thing can get really dangerous in the wrong hands. Sam is more valuable to them and now they'll make him a big offer to stop him leaving the company, ownership, shares etc.

The guy on the left in the blue suit kills the vibe. You guys are rolling, great flow and then dude jumps in and puts on the brakes every time.

It's all Ilya's fault! I'm actually concerned about humanity's future. Microsoft is a pure profit company whereas chatgpt was partially non-profit and most importantly open source unlike Microsoft!

Good God.... Why is Adam always just giving a book report he finished the night before?? Who cares what he thinks at this point he's the Ian Cross of the group.

I smell a lawsuit coming. Investors are gonna be pissed at the total incompetence of this board.

Pat can't even fathom why Sam has no equity in the company, but the company's loyalty to him just paid off. He's back, and most of the board is gone. That's the power of integrity.

@7:15 Sam didn't want equity due to non-profit nature of the firm. Elon also echoed the same sentiment. OpenAI can be a threat, if misused, or a potent solution for many things if used properly. It's the misuse part which kept these early guys keep greed out as a threat. As many times, that is the trigger for things to go bad. Microsoft investment is one such factor. It has diluted the sanctity of the original OpenAI to stay non-profit, and you can see the results since then.

eh, a few things are not correct:

The non-profit still exists and controls the for-profit arm. The Board is technically part of the non-profit and has extreme control over everything (they even cap investor returns and can remove equity and are really just charged with protecting OpenAI's charter. The Board members themselves do not have equity either).

Sam Altman was also a co-founder and they decided themselves to not have equity for various reasons, but mostly because they didn't want money to influence AI safety concerns.

Also, we don't know that Ilya was the driving force behind this. We just know he set up the calls to fire Sam and remove Greg from the Chairman position. If he was the driving force, I'd imagine now that he backtracked and wants Altman back that it would be over already, but it's not.
