My three minute micro-analysis of the Hong Kong classic, A Chinese Ghost Story (1987).

Please forgive the terrible — and drunken — mispronunciation of Tsui Hark 徐克.

The framework is based on Sam Ho's essay 'A Magical Witch's Brew: A Chinese Ghost Story'.

I have always loved this movie, somehow it just works even if it shouldn't. It makes me nostalgic for the time when lots of HK movies of all genres were released in the US at the art houses. The art houses are long gone now and so is the ability to see current East Asian movies on the big screen. The '80s and '90s was a golden age for fans of these movies in the US.
I never saw Chinese Ghost Story II or III, but all 3 are available on Amazon Prime this month and I am surprised to see that II is actually rated highest among the 3 which makes me curious to watch it now! Hi there! Anybody can tell me why the protagonist is always wet in this movie? It is maybe my own mistake but I can take off my head that he is always wet by rain, falling in the water and the wooden bathtube. Can anybody tell me why?

3 minutes is good but now I want to know your thoughts and opinions on the film not just the film's history and purpose.
