A commemorative parade was held at the Cenotaph in Sheffield to honour 40 years since a warship named after our city had sunk in an attack. The HMS Sheffield was the first British warship to be sunk in 37 years during the Falklands War. On 1 May, the public was invited to join veterans and The Sheffield Sea Cadets who gathered at Barker’s Pool. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield and Lord Lieutenant gave a speech to address the lives lost when the warship sank. A member of the Sea Cadets, Sergeant John Daley, was present to watch the group participate on the day. He expressed his pride towards the young cadets and their ties with the HMS Sheffield Association.
