Best Of Wife Carrying World Championship 2023
Every year a small town of Sonkajaervi in Finland hosts the International Wife
Carrying Championships. During this competition, husbands have to carry their wives along the track with various obstacles.
The track is 250 m long and features several obstacles on land and a 1-m deep water pool. According to the rules, the participants can carry their wives or the neighbours.
The wife should be at least 17 years old and weight minimum 49 kilos. If the wife is lighter, she should carry an additional rucksack. There are different types of carrying: piggyback, over the shoulder, or Estonian-style when a wife hangs upside-down with the legs around her husband's shoulders and holds his waist.
The only equipment is a helmet and a belt. Two couples start
simultaneously and run as fast as they can. The winning couple is
the one that completes the course in the shortest time. In addition
to the main prize, the most entertaining couple, the strongest
carrier, and the best costumes are awarded as well.

The wives wrapping their hands around her knees instead of his stomach helped him tremendously. She wasn't dragging him back and he didn't need to fight her gravity. All he had to do was stabilize his running and carry her weight. Well done to all winners

I think countries like Finland and Norway have long since figured out the key to happiness, and this is definitely on of those things. Hats off the to the organizers, fans and contestants. It seems quite physical for both the husbands and wives. But it seems they had a fun time.

Incredible display of physicality by these husbands. Well done chaps! Great job by the wives as well. Minimizing shake and jiggle by establishing a close and firm grip on the husband is the key.

I did this with my 6 year old daughter down a rocky trail in the Vosges mountains because she was too tired to run down to the valley to catch the last train after the 20th stage of 2023 Tour de France.
She is only 20 kg but that was more longer than 250m... '^_^
But I must confess we missed the train...
