Newer transmissions typically run at that temp...times have changed and technology has advanced. Running at 210 empty is actually normal but some of us older guys are not used to a trans running at that temp. Back in the day if your trans was that hot...you will have issues. Now...not so much. Kinda crazy but it works🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️

Nope, I’m changing fluids ahead of what Ford claims. They are not picking up the cost when issues arise out of warranty following those schedules. I view that as marketing cost of ownership spin, and not optimal for the long run.

It’s hard to imagine that the fluid in the Ford is that much improved over other fluids that the 40 degree temperature increases it runs won’t hurt the trans in the long run. I definitely like the idea of more gears available for heavy towing as long as it’s reliable. 🇺🇸💪

My 2020 F250 10 speed is better at 14k miles than it was for the first 10k. Transmission fluid temperature towing a 8k 5th wheel trailer is 200-210. Isn't the service interval shorter for towing and/or "extreme" usage?
Enjoy the trip, JB, you'll be a Ford guy before you know it. :)

Ford thermostat doesn’t open until 200, ram opens at 185 approximately. You’re driving with no RPMs, it’s going to stay high. If you want it to run lower get a different thermostat.

Great video JB as always. I’ve been pulling my 10k RV over 1000 miles from Eastern Oregon back to Colorado with the Ram. I’ve been wondering about overall number for the Coolant, Transmission, Oil temp, Oil Pressure and what is “normal” for unloaded versus towing. That would be a great video to do while you’re on your journey west. I hope you are having a great time with the fam.

Those 200 degree temps on ford tranny is typical. I have a ‘17 model with the 6spd and it typically stays around 200-215. And thats in the south louisiana warmth.

That truck isn't tuned, it doesn't have to be, it's a Powerstroke. Seriously though my 2022 F-350 DRW seems tuned but it isn't.

That area from 70W to 15N is horrible every afternoon. My 2014 5500 was at 195 today pulling a total gross weight of 36, 000 lbs over near lake Linganore. With all those hills I think it did pretty good on temps. I personally love the lower temps, definitely prolongs the life of components and oil. I am surprised that Ford says 150, 000 transmission oil services, being that it has more gears and runs hotter temps. That to me should call for more service intervals. I don’t care what it says, if I owned a Ford I would not go past 50, 000 miles. My wife’s explorer calls for no service on the transmission. We changed it at 50, 000 miles and the oil was very dark and dirty looking. I have a few friends and family that have the same model explorer and some have replaced the transmission at 180, 000 miles and some as low as 70, 000 miles. Not sure if never changing the oil had anything to do with their failures but I’m not about to find out.

I've got a f350 and have noticed loaded/ unloaded it will go up to 220 and then the fan kicks in and cools it down

Hello jb, I just received my new Chevy 350 with the 10 speed allison. And was wondering if you could help me figure out what 5th wheel I could tow up to.  I have included my spec's.  I would greatly appreciate your time and help.  Thank you.  Melody Grandinetti

I've got a 2021 f150 3.5 EcoBoost with the 10 speed, does anyone know if there is any way to display the transmission temperature in numbers? I can only get the gauge which is better than nothing but....

That seems pretty high for not towing. I wonder what it would have got with your fifth wheel?

Those higher temps are typical of ford. Over time that could be the break down issues with Fords transmissions. The 10 speeds start acting up around 50-60k mark with continuous heavy towing applications. Aisin really mastered the cooling/longevity market.
