This was part of the clip show in the "Mickey's house of villains" special. I've always loved this one. It also had a Hansel and Gretel Mickey/Minnie mouse short and one where the triplets trick Donald into thinking he scared them to death. All 3 have different styles but quite beautiful.

Ah, the short that inspired this year's Nostalgia-ween intro. One of my favorite Donald Duck cartoons and one of the best in Mickey's House of Villains which could be an idea for Disneycember along with that Snowed In at the House of Mouse movie. ^^

Doug should definitely keep doing Dark Toons. It's amazing seeing an in-depth look at each 'dark toon'.

It’s been a long time since you did a dark toon. This was another one I remembered from “House of Villans”.

I remember this being played on the House of Mouse.

I also love the way Doug talks colour and frames. Must be call back his illustration days. Makes me look at these shows in a different light

I feel like this series is really Doug living out his personal fantasy of being a film professor over animation subjects no collage would ever hire him for, no matter how pretty backgrounds are.

I know Doug doesn’t do plot-driven action cartoons, but I’d love to see him review that one TMNT episode titles, ”Insane in the Membrane.”

The possessed feet gag was also done in “Wearing of the Grin” with Porky Pig using magic shoes. Maybe that one could also be a Dark Toons episode.

A perfect ending to this year’s Halloween, especially since the Nostalgia-ween animated intros were homaging this. I used to watch this together with Lonesome Ghosts and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, courtesy of a VHS release of the three in the 80s (I didn’t know Sleepy Hollow was paired up with The Wind in the Willows until years later). This is annual watching alongside It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and it’s just not Halloween without them! Happy Halloween!

The Evil Queen scream being used with Maleficent’s death just was so damn creepy & tied the two villains together in a cool way.

When I was really little, like 4 years old, there was a special Halloween episode of "The Wonderful World of Disney."

The centerpiece was the Bing Crosby "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" but it was sandwiched between a bunch of scary shorts. This was one of them. It also had "Lonesome Ghosts" and "Duck Pimples." I loved every minute of it.

A couple of weeks later, mom found a copy of the 45 vinyl version of "Trick or Treat" and grabbed it for me. For a while, it was all I wanted to listen to. I had a little portable phonograph that looked like a briefcase. I would just play that record over and over.

My love of scary stuff can be directly traced back to that Halloween episode.

I first saw this cartoon when he was on the Disney Halloween treat special and DTV Monster Hits in the mid-80s. One of my favorite cartoons.

Fun fact: Donald Duck artist/writer Carl Barks actually made a comic adaptation of this cartoon. It includes several scenes not seen in the cartoon, such as the witch conjuring up a multi-armed troll and turning herself into a pretty duck lady to get the candy from Donald.

Holy crap I literally watched this toon an hour ago and thought, “There should be a dark toon episode on this.”

I remembered first seeing this one as a kid as part of A Disney Halloween, a special narrated by the Magic Mirror and an offscreen narrator. Didn't see it again until college on YouTube, but it was a very memorable little short. June Foray of course, steals the short as Witch Hazel. She would later voice another witch of the same name for Looney Tunes shorts.

This is my favorite donald duck cartoon of all of them, not just at Halloween, but all year. Witch Hazel is my favorite and I LOVE watching Donald get his comeuppance! And the song is the best! Beautiful colors in that opening shot!

I always like witch-hazel from Warner Brothers when she would click her heels and fly off on her broom and bobby pens would fly out everywhere.
