5 Techniques Piano Beginners Don't Spend Enough Time On [IMPORTANT]

What’s up my piano friends!! Today’s lesson we’re gonna go over 5 piano techniques most beginners simply don’t spend as much time on as they should.

Then for each section there’s going to be a link to another video that goes super in-depth on that particular subject. That way you can get the overview of everything you need here in this video, and then the specific techniques you need to work on you can choose whatever video’s best for you.

So whether it’s finger techniques, hand techniques, reharmonization, soloing, improvisation, modulation, rhythm, ect - these exercises will help you practice in a way that builds a solid foundation for learning everything else piano related.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

00:00 Intro
00:16 Technique #1 - Helps you learn songs fast
01:57 Technique #2 - Tool to make any song beautiful
03:32 Technique #3 - Saves you time with efficient learning
05:47 Technique #4 - Makes Hands Together playing easy
06:37 Technique #5 - (this is the MOST IMPORTANT one…)

Make sure you stick around to the end - the LAST technique is by far the most important - and ALSO the one beginners seem to forget to do all the time (or even just don’t know they were supposed to do it in the first place). And it’s key to getting to an advanced level.

Oh, and btw if you’re a complete beginner, no worries, this tutorial is specifically designed for beginners and intermediate players, and we start slow and take absolute baby steps to make sure you’ll get it frustration-free. We’ll cover the technique and theory to get you up and running and avoiding all the bad habits.

Make sure you stick around to the end - the last technique is the MOST important, and also the one most beginner's get wrong... Also I'm testing a new style to speed up some of the talking parts of the video - let me know if you think this is HELPFUL and saves you time, or if you just think it's annoying - feel free to be honest!!

And here's the timestamps for ya

Not crazy about the fast speed - but great lesson, nonetheless.

I really liked the sped up video. I usually had to increase speed, since you are talkative guy and there is a lot of talk around (which is not a critique, I guess it's just your style ), and then return it to normal when you start playing since it distorts sounds.

I love your lessons I think you are brilliant. But I am a little older and your words come too close together and too fast. I don’t have time to take in what you’re saying or jot notes down. But I think you’re a genius and I love your sense of humor. I’d like to take a sledgehammer to my piano like in your video sometimes. Again I think you are brilliant and I thank you for offering this to Us struggling musicians. Bless your heart.❤

Very useful for folks who played a long time ago and need a swift kick back in the right direction.

Love the video; is there a way to slow down the voice?

This is the speed I watch most YT videos cause they're usually too slow. Love it. Fast minds think alike but it might be a little too fast for non-native speakers/a global audience.😂

I really love the speeding technique while explaining and I have noticed at the moment you showed on keyboard you slowed down a bit which is the best way of teaching when the topic is long.

hey man
Anyways I needed some help
I feel like (well I think i already am) I'm rushing the process of learning piano.

A reason I rush is because I wanna get into music production. I like vst's like keyscape and their pianos, but Im not good at playing, so I kinda set standards for myself that I'll be very good in a short time.

Another reason I rush is because in my one year of learning piano I feel like an intermediate player even though I am not. People say that my playing sounds like I've been playing a long time. So I just think my second year of playing piano I'd be WAYYY better. Thats another reason why I'm rushing.

Another reason is because I wanna get it down because I actually plan to play in different churches hopefully. I've been hesitant about that because I can't put myself out there since I'm not exactly where I want to be at piano.

Oh and ANOTHER reason I rush is because like I said, I'm not where I want to be at piano right now. I always felt that if I get all that I need to get down NOW, then when Im older it will be WAYYY easier.
I know this sounds COMPLETELY unrealistic and once I'm older I'll be laughing at myself for sure but, how do I "stop" trying to rush?

I loved your fast speed teaching! I’m learning French too, and I think they talk about that same speed. I hate wasting time, so this was great!😅

Great video, but why not record at normal speed and the few who would like it sped up can just do so? Why make the majority have to slow it down?

I like learnign from you, but I don't like the fast speed very much. Normal is better. We can speed it up on our own, if we want too.

Great video, not sure why the speed is so fast ??

I have a question(s) I watched your video on the flop your hand on the piano. I'm getting some insane results. Only thing is, should I isolate one hand at a time? One finger at a time? For how long should I practice
Just the flop? And when to move on to the catch? I have been playing piano wrong for about 3 years. I can compose but my playing hurts and sounds teribel. But the flop thing helps if I could get any advice on structuring that into a practice plan. Thanks for any advice.
