Eurasia Group says it's 'fairly positive' on the Philippines' outlook under Marcos Jr.

Peter Mumford of the political risk consultancy says Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will try to balance two things in his first term: reducing poverty and trimming one of the largest fiscal deficits in Southeast Asia.

The difference between President Marcos' administration and other administrations is that he has a very supportive Vice-President, which makes his Presidency more stable than the other.

The opposition was basically annihilated last May 2022 election.

Philippines has at least 112 billion dollars 💵 n foreign reserves in its central bank! The space that Marcos can implement his economic policy is huge! Even if he increases tax? It won’t be a huge increase it is meant to pay off domestic debt in the long run! Giving that the country is STILL logging positive GDP growth! 8.5 percent last quarter! Young demographics which means future consumers and tax payers! Huge inflow foreign remittances! And solid macro economics fundamentals that will keep Philippine out recession at least for a time! If there’s any country out there that could pull this off is Philippines! And that Old argument about poverty is becoming the thing of it self ! OLD! Compare Philippines to other countries with terminal demography! And rely heavily on export? 🤣

To my fellow countrymen, matabang lang ang plano ni Marcos marami raw pangarap pero wala namang nilatag na konkretong plano kung paano gagawin. Tayo rin daw po ang bansang may pinakamalaking fiscal deficit sa southeast asis o yung pagkukulang sa kabang yaman sa buong southeast asia.
