If you listen to the story, you'll hear they are not reinvestigating the Kansas murders but the murders of two in Florida shortly after the two went there after the Kansas murders. They probably want to give that family closer.

They had plenty of time to investigate Hickock and Smith while they were still alive. Due to appeals, it took Kansas five years to execute them. It should have and could have been solved, or H&S should have been ruled out, while both were still alive.

They were hung on the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln being shot (Lincoln died early the next morning, on the 15th)

So stupid. Smith and Hickock intended to rob the Clutters because they were well off. The Walkers were trash and lived in a shack. They had nothing of any value. Why would Smith and Hickock want to rob them?

Late to the party, but check out “In Colder Blood.” They need the boots worn by Hickock (I think) to reject or include Smith and Hickock conclusively.

I guess they are digging them up after 60 yrs to ask them some questions . Why are they doing this for if they are the wrong people then there's nothing they can do .
