The Quint: Assam Assembly Polls 2016 - Voting for Final Phase Begins

Assam is one of five states going to polls this year. The first phase of two-phase election took place on 4 April, and brought to the fore a number of colourful candidates; rich, powerful and law-evading.
The second phase of the elections, that begun on 11 April, has some big contenders, and some of them have decidedly dicey credentials.
In Assam, 61 constituencies covering lower and central parts of the state will go to the polls in this phase, while 31 constituencies will go to vote in West Bengal.
