Edit: I can't believe there are so many people confused about the children part like if your father has 1 child(you) and your mother has 1 child too (you) they are both the same person and not 2 different ppl . Is that so difficult to understand? And no we don't take other things like divorce and cheating into consideration because the question DID NOT MENTION IT.

Edit 2: Muslims only allow upto 4 wives and for Mormons it's now illegal to practice polygamy... Currently there are no religion or country which allows 7 wives...if there is pls mention the name but stop mentioning muslims and Mormons and saying it's not illegal

My take: The real answer was never to do this with your own logic, but to ask for clarification by the person issuing the question. If you are too self-absorbed and work under presumptions then you are bound to cause errors down the line. Never assume that your interpretation of a problem is the correct one if multiple interpretations exist.

49 children + 14 adults = 63 people

But this is the simplest way. Depending upon how you read the sentences. The language presented in the sentences itself is so unclear that you can interpret it in several different ways (meanings) which led to several different answers.

Another plausible answer is that it is a polygamy situation where one man actually has 7 illegitimate children before marriage (each man has 7 children), he then married to 7 wives (7 men have 7 wives) then with each of those wives, he procure 7 children so then it will be:

7 men x7 wives x7 children = 343
7 men x 7 illegitimate children = 49
So 343 + 49 = 392 people

And so on. and so on. Depends on the way you find the actual meaning of the sentences.
