I think the funniest part of this trend in 80s horror is that it happened for a specific reason in Friday the 13, and then other movies copied that….but there wasn’t actually a reason for the killer to care, so the couples were just coincidentally getting murdered during their “happy time”.

Can't forget the killer always has some relation to the protagonist. Oh my god, the Brooklyn Slasher was my uncle's, father's, friend's, sister's, brother's neighbour! Or "holy shit he is that guy I gave a bad look at when I passed by him ten years ago and now he is out to kill me and my friends ahhhh!"
