Kellie Pickler Shaves Her Head

Kellie Pickler is in the headlines today after making a bold yet very sweet move in support of a friend who is battling breast cancer..

The singer shaved her head with her friend Summer Holt Miller in hopes to create awareness towards early detection and seeking mammograms before age 40. Summer is 36 years old, and will start undergoing chemotherapy treatments this week.

Miller said in a statement on her Caring Bridge website: "I was told that it was mentally much easier to do it this way than to wake up with my hair on my pillow, I'm really not that apprehensive about shaving my head. It is hair and it will grow back."

We commend Kellie and think both ladies look lovely. As we reported earlier this month, the singer made an emotional statement on her Facebook page about her friend's battle and apologized to fans for being absent during the difficult time.

This is great support. I'm going thought chemotherapy myself, I was blown away when my husband offered to shave his head in solidarity with me. I actually shaved his head myself. It helped me morally. He is a sweet man and I have great respect for anybody that is willing to do this for a loved one. Good luck to all of those going under chemo treatment. My love to all!

My cousin Rachel had leukemia when she was 6. I went to see her in the hospital on the first day her hair started to fall out. She was so upset, but I reassured her that all the beauty she thought that she lost on her head, would be gained a hundred fold in her heart. She stopped crying, and gave me a big hug. But when I released her, some more of her hair came off into my hands, and i began to cry. She wanted me to keep the locks to remind me that love never falls out but continues to grow.
