I was just in Newcastle right before the lockdown. I was only there one night for a concert in Gateshead. Though it was my 13th trip to England, it was my first to that area. I talked to some people in pubs after the show. For the most part I understood them but I did need a few things repeated. I loved the city. Loved the accent. It's a very friendly place.

I had a mate from Prudhoe near Newcastle. During his time in the Merchant Navy he was arrested in New York USA for being drunk and disorderly. The desk sergeant who booked him in to the cell wrote in the margin that he was probably Norwegian but spoke a little English. Always makes me laugh when I hear a Prudhoe dialect.

i'm danish and the way the geordie accent said home, was very close to the way we say it, which is 'hjem', so it's funny to see similarities

Geordie and many other northern accents have the harsh German whereas the South have the softer French. So although the words aren't pronounced right, by her just being German she KIND of sounds Geordie

Missed a trick at the end, there's a classic comedy about blokes from Newcastle called "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet". Would have been a great ending to fuse the two languages and reference this!

‘How's it gan’ sounds a lot like ‘Hvordan går det‘ in Norwegian. Gan = går = go = how goes it. ‘Broon’ is ‘brun’ in Norwegian. ‘An gan hyem’ also sounds a lot like ‘Jeg går hjem’ in Norwegian. If you switch ‘jeg’ for the dialect word ‘æ’, it becomes even more similar: ‘Æ går hjem’. Now commen you out to leik?

My grandad had a proper geordie accent before he got rid of it when he became a teacher so his students could understand him. I’m trying to learn how to speak geordie to surprise him haha

I've watched all these accent videos, and I think she has nailed a regional accent better than any of the others.
