Follow Up to the first vid on weird intersections / road junctions. I mistanenly left off the most notorious type of turn that calls Garden State home: New Jersey Jughandles! So sorry, Jersey ;(

But Australians pointed out that they may have Jersey beat... the Melbourne Hook Turn is outrageous! I hope car rental places give you a course before letting u go on one of those things.

I encountered the NJ turn near the Meadowlands. I was staying at the Hampton Inn across the street and we had to veer right to make the left to get back to our hotel. I'm from Central NY so this was a new concept to me.

... kinda like a freeway, but with red/green traffic signal crossing without an overpass.

learnt to drive a 5speed column shift Nissan van doing Melbourne Hook turns. TBH they are simple and as the traffic is really slow in the city aren't scary at all. People actually concentrate.

That hook turn definitely beats the jug handle. The jug handle works really well. You need to learn to look for them. It becomes second nature pretty quick.

hook turns sound dangerous and insane until you actually do one, then you realise it's genius. plus you won't get T-boned by a 60 ton tram that way
