Here's a way to use icons in carear mode, go to edit national teams, then edit a team with icons, add the icons to the national team start a career mode and use current squads this will allow you to sign icons in your carear mode

Too bad you can't really do this with the mobile version or the old FIFA 14 Mobile, since EAFC Mobile doesn't have career mode let alone create a club feature. EA never fails to disappoint me.
