Actually, fighting fire with fire is in fact used by fire fighters (usually forest fire fighters)... You set up a perimeter around the fire you want to contain by making a controlled fire that burns away everything in its path(also used are various tools resembling gardening tools, to assist with clearing out the perimeter). Without anything to burn, the fire your fighting won't spread further beyond that perimeter, thus saving the rest of the forest and/or the communities nearby... A similar concepts is used with city fire fighters, except instead of burning a perimeter, they usually use axes and other demolition tools to clear out walls to prevent a fire from spreading to the rest of the building/house... Fire can't burn everything if there is nothing to burn...
