I've got a smart LG TV and you cannot record when you press the record function it says this TV does not support recording.

One more thing that I found does not work at all, is the feature that is supposed to automatically make space on the disk when it gets full, by deleting older recordings. The feature simply does not work, so it does not record what it is scheduled to record until you make space yourself. I did not see any firmware updates yet that may fix this.

I have a 2014 model 42LB569Y. The recording capability is very useful and one of the reasons I bought an LG. It exceeded my expectations regarding picture quality of broadcast TV. However there are some limitations of the recording capability that are not made clear in the documentation:
1. You cannot watch one channel and record another. This is quite a big inconvenience.
2. Some disks connect and some don't. There is no on screen indication why a disk will not connect. A newish WD Elements 500Gb FAT32 formatted disk worked fine for playback of MKV, but the recording function failed to recognize it. An older 160Gb NTFS formatted disk worked fine.There is no information on the Internet listing which devices work and which do not. So someone that purchases a disk for this purpose can find himself with an expensive piece of junk.
One more thing. I once experienced a complete freeze of the TV after leaving it to record while off. Only removing the power cord and returning it caused it to recover.
I currently do not see any firmware upgrades that can fix this issue.
