Yamaha V-Star 650 Ride and Review

In this video I show you my 2008 V-star 650 custom by taking it to horsetooth reservoir in Fort Collins Colorado. In the future I plan to improve my camera setup and invest in a microphone so that I do not have to voice over the video, and eliminate the wind noise. Thanks for watching and I hope I give you some good info about this motorcycle!

Thanks for the short, no frills, just the facts, noise free, informative video! 57 years young getting back on the saddle starting with motorcycle safety training next week. I've always loved the V-Star line and the 650 is definitely on my watch list.

Excellent overview! I bought a used but obviously loved V-Star 650 Custom (my first bike) for only $3k. It had only 7k miles and a ton of (after market) added chrome. That was 8 years ago and I still love and ride her today!

I've had my 03 V star custom for 10 years with absolutely no trouble. Added classic handlebars classic mirrors and the classic seat.

Spot-on review. I love this bike and highly recommend it. It's actually my *second* cruiser, after I upgraded from a 2009 Vulcan 500 Ltd. (which I also pretty much loved). This bike, the Yamaha, is just super-smooth in all respects and incredibly easy to ride and operate. There really isn't much that I can think can be improved upon for what I use it for. I live in New York City and use it for trips to the suburbs and on urban highways, paired with a stablemate even more maneuverable Kawasaki W800 for in-city riding. Thanks for making this video. It's a very accurate recap of the bike.

They are underpowered but handle like a dream. Just get the correct tires listed for the bike. The front is different than the classic or silverado. I had a tire 10mm wider than spec on the front for a while. Changed it to the correct size and it handled like a Porsche. Had this exact same bike.
Also, had to run 30W fork oil in the ftont to keep it from nose diving during braking. You can also do the golf tee mod from the forums and the exaust popping on decelleration will go away... It is a great beginner bike for around town. It does not do well in headwinds on the highway or steep hills. It also scrapes easily when leaning. The good news is that once you master this riding style and position all skills transfer to the 1300. Feels like the same bike only more powerful and with better ergonomics, especially if you are a tall rider.

You do not have to let it warm up for a few minutes
pull the choke all the way out to start it, push it in half way right after it starts, and ride off
about a half mile down the road push it in all the way.
the bike holds 4.2 gallons, the stock bike gets almost 60mpg unless you are riding in 3rd gear all the time (or its badly out of tune). The range is 240 miles to empty.
The Road Star and Stratoliner have 1700 cc engines. The Royal Star has a very unique 1300 V FOUR engine.

I have an '04 650 custom with a full cobra exhaust system and rejetted carb. The intake was swapped for a performance cone and repositioned vertically under the gas tank. Even put the thing on a dyno. She definitely has a lot of get-up-and-go, to the point where I can feel the front tire trying to lift off the ground. I'm looking for other ways to squeeze a few horses out of the old v twin. She needs a valve adjustment, too. Has a soft tick when she's hot and bothered. Awesome bike. Perfect for a project.

I love writing in English so much it's so funny. I don't know how to stop. And the bike in the video is cool. Yes, I love all bikes.

If you want to upgrade from the lackluster brakes.
Get a 1999 - 2001 R1 or R6 right front caliper
And rotor (only need one)
Then put full sintered pads on it.

Be mindful of panic grabs while turning afterwards or you will meet the ground quickly

Hello, I also have and even two 400 and 650. Of course I like the 650 better and it has the name Brown. And 400 is just called dragon and if in Russian then Drakosha. Since I am Russian and if there are mistakes in the letter, please forgive me.
