Ostrich Riding

Показать описание
The ostrich is the largest and heaviest bird in the world: adult males can grow up to two and a half meters tall and weigh more than 150 kilos.
Here in South Africa, the domestication and breeding of ostriches is fundamentally intended for the production of meat, skin, feathers and eggs.
Improvised safaris on some farms allow tourists to practice a funny and rather unusual sport: ostrich-riding.
The wings are very small and do not allow them to fly, but they do help in propulsion, for balance when running, and also to fend off potential predators.
Their long, powerful, muscular legs are designed for running and help them reach speeds of up to 90 km/h.

It's funny how their first instinct when something's on their back is to just run and run and run until the thing either gets off or falls off lmao

I love the way the ostriches look running away at the end.

The closest humans will ever get to riding a 🦖 dinosaur.

Judging from their faces, it’s gotta be like riding a jet ski for the first time but a thousand times better.

So they weigh over 150 kilos, run up to 90 km/hr, and can support the weight of an adult human? That's really impressive.

Watching this video made me realize how much I didn't know about ostriches

Wow. Using it for many purposes. Riding, travelling, enjoying, playing, and for protection.

Looks fun as long as the ostriches aren't being ridden all day. I imagine these brief ten second rides are typical given how uncontrollable they are. That's not necessarily very stressful for the bird, as far as I know. I would never do it without a helmet.

I know that many environmentalists would say that this is a savage thing to do to ostriches, but riding ostriches must be funny as hell. XD

Have you ever tried carrying someone and running?...It slows you down significantly, but these birds are carrying humans and running pretty damn fast. Those are some strong legs. It's interesting to me because their thigh muscles don't look that large. And yet they're faster and stronger than human legs🤷🏾‍♂️

Also surprising how calm they seem while a guy is on top of them. These guys must have a reeeeaaally deep bond with the birds there. May this farm live in Peace.

I always thought about if we could ride them just as a joke I didn't think it was for real lol.

Ostriches amuse me greatly because they are just incredibly derpy. They run around hilariously and always have a dumb expression.
