What's actually hard on guitar: Making a living.

What is REALLY hard is changing strings, especially on a floating bridge, not a difficult process but motivating yourself to actually do it is a thing.

I thought you were going to say “making money” since this joke is overused but you didn’t. Good job

This is so true on any instrument. Sure you can be super good at all the notes and not but what can be way harder sometimes is mentally getting yourself to be correctly on time while still playing the notes. That’s really one of the unspoken challenges of playing music imo

In my orchestra class it was 75% clapping to the beat with only 25% playing instruments

The hardest part about timing I see for musicians playing with others (have quite some ensemble experience) are intentional timing changes/more difficult meters that sound very natural. Singer Songwriter tends to be where most struggle, cause most learn the difficult timing from other songs, and it is much harder to naturally incorporate it into your overall playing style. I’ve had musicians struggle to play on certain songs of mine, even if they were more difficult timing wise but also had a good amount of repetition to make the complex stuff not nearly as difficult. Most could deal with trickier harmony, but that intricate understanding of timing is a difficult skill that will take you far once you get it down. Sadly, all my difficult timing material hardly had musicians that could play, but my material with difficult chord extensions but simpler timing was able to be assisted for a final performance much easier

Coming back from a decade long break from guitar, the hardest part of getting back into it wasn't playing fast but stretching my fingers for weird ass jazzy chords.

Great stuff as always brother! I would also throw in playing live. As you know well, that’s a completely different skill than playing in your bedroom or studio.
