I spent many years in different combat areas in the Middle East, I am so ashamed of how it all went down. We left so many good people behind and many haven’t been heard from since.

I spoke to an old Vietnam vet. He had flashbacks to the last days of his war. He told me the only difference between Vietnam and Afghanistan was that his younger brothers were coming home as heroes. While he and his own came home to nothing. Told me that was the only difference. And from what i know of both. I could not argue with them.

Watching this video was brutal. The Navy Corpsman was from my hometown and graduated from my former highschool. Maxton Soviak died that day along with 12 of his fellow brothers and sisters. He was a hero, a good man who became a field medic to help others and defend our country. Our community is proud of the man he was becoming and devastated that we couldn't see the life he would have had. RIP Max, you are missed by those that knew you and an inspiration to all.

This video saddens me. I spent three years of my life in Afghanistan. If truly wish it had turned out differently.

I just want to say that I’m really thankful for you to make this video for me to be able to understand better of what’s going on. I’ve been wanting to comment and ask about this video for a while but I don’t wanna be rude to you and I know what you do is hard, so thank you for putting time and effort into this video.

I went to Afghanistan in 2009 and 2010. I lost 2 brothers there to IED’s. It was all for nothing.

A friend of mine who served in the military said the afghan army were never commited to US standards and literally put their weapons down when the taliban took over

as an american, we are mocked online about interfering with other countries and are called imperialists and colonizers. we pulled out. we let the afghanis be. and we get critisized for that. we get mocked and insulted because our government meddles in the country, then get humiliated when we pull out.
if you are a european who thinks this pullout was terrible, you wanted us gone in the first place and we gave you exactly what you wanted. an afghani Afghanistan, not an American one
this is what everyone wanted. for us to leave

For someone who was actually there, this video is vastly accurate. Great job! I pray constantly for my soldiers, and the service members that fell in this catastrophic event. I blame politicians who should not be making decisions for Military Service Members who KNOW the cloud of war! And God save all of us! We live in tough times, and we need to be tough people because times will only get tougher before they get better! Be safe and love one another!

This was a tough pill to swallow….I’m glad learning from our mistakes is so essential to the identity of the US

You can't help a country that doesn't want to be liberated.

I want to watch this, but I'm not there yet. I'm sure it's a great video, but as one of a number of folks who left a part of me there, it breaks my heart what we did to Afghanistan and her people. Keep up the good work.

It was the government failing... not the men and women who wore the uniform. Sorry my brothers and sisters for what happened... you know as well as I do that we're only allowed to do what we can.

One of the lessons of Afghanistan is that geography matters. Anyone who invades Iran, Pakistan, or Switzerland will learn the same lesson. Mountains are a b**ch to deal with in warfare.

I agree, as a USAF veteran from over 50
years ago, 20 years in Afghanistan was
all for nothing, as it was sometimes
called, Againistain. 😢

Being one of the troops on the runway those few days probably have some extreme PTSD. Everyone sees the humanity in people even if they were your enemy in times like that. Especially the ones near where that psychopath blew himself up. May all those who lost their lives RIP. And hopefully the Afghan people forgive us for abandoning them in such a way that we armed their oppressors.
