Pope Francis has apologized after he was quoted using a derogatory term about gay people, to reaffirm his opposition to openly gay men joining seminaries.
According to Italian media, unnamed bishops reported that Francis jokingly used the slur behind closed doors. In the past, the pope has spoken publicly about being respectful towards the LGBTQ community.

Was he talking about the pedophiles in the priesthood?

I mean, his religion is very clear on its view on homosexuality (see the story of Sodom) What would you expect? There's no way to reconcile the abrahamic religions with modern thinking.

"Troppa frociaggine" 😂😂. I'm gay and I find it funny. Catholicism is in itself pure frociaggine, with or without his permission. I hope it would be so in a healthier way though

Yeah, and I once thought the pope had to be religious and the USA's president would never say "We already have a mayor, we don’t need any more shots", but here we are

He apologized for something? Good! but wait... isn't the Pope supposed to be "infallible" (meaning he can't make mistakes and whatever he says is fact (yeah, it is ridiculous, but lots of stuff is ridiculous in Catholicism)? Microscopic progress is better than no progress, I guess.

He used a word that unequivocally is a slur, there is no linguistic ambiguity in that rEmark.

When news anchors talk about gay men they should probably try not to use terms like "unpack".

There seems to be confusion over what the Pope is apologising for. He is not apologising for the views that he holds regarding homosexuality, but he is apologising for using a term that is considered offensive. He may be against an increase in the number of gay seminarians, but he should not use a term that is widely seen as offensive. After all, we are told that Jesus held strong views, but he didn't resort to vulgar slurs, so God's Representative on Earth should follow that example. You do not have to love your neighbour to be polite to them.

Imagine thinking that another human can tell you how to live your life based on your own personal beliefs. Ridiculous!

A hypocritical religious leader. Now there's a thing.

I think the media is confusing Pope Francis' words. First they even said that the report doesn't confirm or deny that Francis actually said this word. Secondly I believe the "Church" with a capital C refers to the body of believers and EVERYBODY is welcome there, because Christ welcomes all to be saved. However, just like if you're entering into someone else's house as a guest, there are rules you have to follow. And according to the Catholic Church, if you're a priest, you should not partake in homosexual activities.

Does this undermine infallibility in any way? Probably not. It's not like there are standards for Catholics.

I'm 7th day Adventist.I don't think it matters anymore If we're gay non-religious, it's very important that we respect one another as human beings. Jesus saves.

He's the most progressive pope, by far. Idk how much folks can expect from a very conservative and dogmatic religion. Can't silence or force every single individual to the will of progressivism. I'm honestly surprised how progressive this pope is to begin with. He's already spoken out against so many things the catholic church has normally pushed. He also had members investigated and has advocated against crimes towards children within the church more than any other pope, by far. For a single man to effectively do a 120°, but not a 180° within just such a short time, for such an old and well established religion, is a pretty big deal. Not even the best US presidents could do such a thing. I'm agnostic and can only give a nod of approval to this pope, he seems to genuinely care about humanity at large... even the LGBTQ+ folks. I'm on the spectrum and say things so off the cuff that get taken wrong but my intent is always in the right place. It seems like this is the case with pope Francis as well. I wish him many more healthy years ahead.
