You mention that there is under extrusion in the infill as if it's a bad thing. The settings in Cura are set to such a way that under extrusion in the infill is seen as "acceptable" (or even a good thing). Slightly under extruding the infill doesn't have much effect, but it does speed up the printing (You print infill faster, but due to the time it takes the hotend to heat up, you cant increase the temperature to compensate for the higher flow). So this isn't a result of a bowden style printer, but trying to get as much speed without impacting the quality.

Your review is well detailed with a great production value. Very glad I found your channel. If you don't mind id like to chime in as an Ultimaker user. Ultimaker as a company gets a little different in user experience depending on what you buy. From the Original, Original +, Mini, 2, 2+ and now the model 3. You still get some level of support and the occasional upgrade kit for a steep price. The community is probably the best source of knowledge available for Ultimaker and any new user. Just be aware of what your buying in to before pulling the trigger on a expensive machine. Ultimaker products for the first time user and even advanced users are a good printer. Until this model 3 arrived they have been a little lacking in current features for 3D printers.

Now that that's out of the way. I do have a few concerns with this printer. At a starting price point of $3495.00 the print speed and quality seems to take a hit for the new features. The dual extrusion quality seems almost sub standard in the Frog model. It could be easy to say its the users fault but since Cura has so many presets im more inclined to think its the printer that is at fault here. Ultimaker makes its very clear this is marketed more towards the professional market. The price and limitations also seems to enforce that opinion. Im also a little worried they want to create a closed ecosystem for themselves much like another well known manufacture that wont be named. I'm a big fan of the Ultimaker Original and Original +. Unfortunately I stopped recommending this since more and more companys make a similar or better product at close to half the price.

Anyways that's just one persons opinion and perspective. Take it for what it is. Happy printing everyone!

At approx 24:58 you have a print made w/red eyes...I have the UM3 but can't figure out how you did the teeth and eyes in cura. Hopefully you can do an in depth tutorial on the use of 2 colors with the UM3. Thanks...looking forward to answer.

Great review! Answered a bunch of questions I had - especially normal supports vs PVA supports! :)

I would like to see a shoot off between this and other dual material machines like the BCN Sigma with the IDEX heads or the Robox with its tilting head and needle valve shut off. The additional build time with this system is probably the biggest drawback. BTW is there anything special about the ultimaker PVA that helps keep the moisture out? I imagine that would be a big pain for professional users unless you run it from a drybox, which would negate thr NFC. Beautiful machine though and great in depth review.

Do you have any experience with NinjaFlex on bowdens like the Ultimakers? Because we have an Objet30pro for all our high quality prototyping but used our old FDM machine (makerbot Rep2) for other experimental materials such as NinjaFlex but I still haven't found a good recipe for our newer Ultimaker2 to use it.

Hi!

Great review! I am considering getting one myself.
My GF runs a small business of printing cookie cutters and needs a reliable printer. We have one and we are pretty satisfied, but it is a pain to setup sometimes (and i am not that hobby guy to tinker that much around).
For us, a printer needs to work. Nothing more nothing less. We are willing to pay a higher price for this.

One important question:
Is there any Ultimaker-Filament which is Food-safe? I know it from PETG.
But i dont see ultimaker offering PETG.

If possible, i want to avoid to use 3rd Party PET, just to end up with the necessity to mess around on a 3500€+ machine.

Thank you for the review, I am comparing this machine with the Replicator+ which you also reviewed. I work at a research university and need something that just works. We would like to get a printer that delivers good consistent results without having to keep changing settings. Multiple materials is a plus BUT I would give that up for consitant results and ease of use. Between the Replicator+ and Ultimaker 3, can you give a recommendation between the two?

Would you like to be taught by someone who demonstrates as you have??
Though the review was adequate, your preparation and editing was not anything I appreciated. It was just too disjointed and disorganized to be of use as a demonstration.
I understand you had the best of intentions. Maybe next time create a better script of what you wish to show adn what you think should be avoided.
