Hydrogen could be made from surplus electricity, as a rule. Easy money.

The amounts of surplus electricity wasted from grids, or generating installations, or from users are tremendous.

Hydrogen is the perfect solution to our climate change woes but its implementation cannot depend upon normal market factors. Talk about the cost of purchasing it are irrelevant because we are in the midst of an existential crisis.. To realize how absurd it is to talk about the cost and price of hydrogen in this context consider what would have happened if the United States had stayed out of WW2 because it would cost too much to enter the fight.

Green hydrogen will have the impact on society that people think/thought Fusion would have.

As the video pointed out it is adding a step to the energy process, thus making it less efficient. It has its interest for planes or ideally port shipping which could fuel the boats with hydrogen and also the equipment like forklifts as batteries for cargo vessels would be very heavy and wild guess is 10 000 cars worth of battery per ship.

But the idea of having consumer cars with hydrogen is silly because your just recreating the gas station supply line and distribution instead of improving the electric grid. This would make existing fossil fuel companies happy as they don't need to change business models.

Hydrogen is advocated because the grey hydrogen even if not used in Canada could be used elsewhere allowing natural gas companies to keep extracting methane and the associated methane leaks which is a potent green house gas. It just allows the possibility to maintain the status quo and let's their business continu without changing.

Hydrogen extractors require platinum and iridium, 2 very expensive and rare elements which you'll be buying from Russia, and hydrogen cars don't like the cold.

Hydrogen is very volatile, one spark and boom. Hydrogen cars still have oil in their engines. Not a silver bullet but not the worst solution out there.
